FBISE is a federal institution that operates autonomously. It is responsible for managing funds and overseeing the administration, regulation, control, and development of intermediate and secondary-level education within its jurisdiction. The Federal Board was established in 1975 through a constitutional act passed by the federal government of Pakistan. FBISE conducts examinations for students from Cantonments, Garrisons, Gilgit-Baltistan, and international schools of Pakistan located in foreign countries.

Federal Board ICT Admissions
The Federal Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education oversees admissions for matriculation and intermediate levels. Students can apply for FBISE admissions as either regular or private candidates. Many students from abroad also enroll in FBISE. Recently, FBISE has introduced a new course called Matric-Tech, which is equivalent to traditional matriculation. Soon, FBISE will commence admissions for 9th, 10th, and Intermediate levels, including FSc pre-medical, pre-engineering, and computer science groups, for both the 1st annual and 2nd annual exams.
