Established in 1882, the University of Punjab in Lahore is Pakistan’s oldest and largest institution of higher learning. Dr. G. W. Leitner, a Hungarian-British scholar, was the first Registrar and was instrumental in the university’s establishment. Professor A. C. Woolner, Vice-Chancellor from 1928 to 1936, contributed significantly to its early growth, honored with a statue at the Allama Iqbal Campus.
